Most Disturbing Event at Gen Con 2010

Every year I give an award to the most disturbing, terrifying or downright weird event at Gen Con. Last year we nearly had a tie, but “Hentai Dubbing” won by a nose.  Or other body part, depending on where your mind goes.

This year we had such a clear winner that there was no need for  a tie-breaker.  “Cosplay Deviants” is a website dedicated to putting attractive women in skimpy cosplay outfits. Actually, forget the skimpy part and try non-existent.  I saw the booth and the ladies were quite…fetching. That said, these same women created the single most disturbing paragraph ever printed.

Here is the paragraph on page 126 of the convention book.  Read on at your own peril for I promise the image your mind conjures will gnaw at you like a hungry vole for all time!

Strip Poker

Friday Midnight

Westin Grand Ballroom IV & V

Watch the models play strip poker against members of the audience ot keep from showing off their sexy underwear-but don’t lose against them

Just think of it, by a single turn of the cards you might either get a sexy model sharing Victoria’s Secret with you or naked gamer flesh after two days in 80% humidity. The horror, the horror!

If you have something even worse, by all means share it in the comments. I need something to cleanse my mind of these foul images.

    THIS is at a convention?

I honestly don’t know if I’m intrigued or disgusted.

Are there no strip clubs in Indianapolis?

Well, I’d assume that if someone wanted to see Yuna from Final Fantasy X stripping, they wouldn’t go to a strip club… I’m just sayin’. Think about it: What Otaku doesn’t have their fantasies?

I’ve been to going to GenCon for 6 years now, i’m 35, and am not a prude. However, i agree that this is disturbing and was slightly offended by this booth. GenCon is about table games, meeting people, and having fun. Dressing in skimpy costumes is great and i take amazing photos each year of all the costumes. But at the CosPlay booth they had the girls showing completely nude photos to people and discussing their lady parts. I am glad that someone @GenCon was smart enough to put them in the corner.

First and foremost, no gamers ever took anything off. You either won a hand, and the girl removed an article, or you lost and you sat down and someone else had a chance. If you were the one who managed to get a girl down to her undies you won a prize. No one was nude at any point.

Secondly, and not quite as important as facts, Cosplayers are at EVERY Con. Just because someone was smart enough to make money off sex selling… well what do you expect. I’m not saying the way they were advertising was ideal but thats the way life is.

Naked gamers is a scary thought.

As for the deviants though, they were a great group of girls. They checked IDs before showing any “questionable” content and were good cosplayers as well. Additionally they were fully capable of carrying on gaming conversations if you tried 😉 Its just people had a hard time getting past the cute girls part 😛

GenCon is more than just table games… You’ve got a heavy video game and anime presence as well. They fit there as much as any other booth.

I remember them hosting the event at SF Supercon back in June. IIRC, it was booked to go on for about an hour, but the girls were pretty much down to their underwear after about 15 minutes. Once the crowd found out that they weren’t going to actually get nude, they up and left.

Honestly though, you guys are just lucky they didn’t host their \How to talk to girls at a Convention\ panel. That was pretty much just random otaku trying out crappy pick-up lines while the girls talked about how they were gonna have lesbian shower sex with each other back in their hotel room after the panel. Oh, and one of them did a very convincing imitation of a Pikachu having an orgasm. <_<
