I feel 14 Again! Pat Robertson Says D&D Will Destroy My Life

As a teenager in the 80s I felt nothing but pride that Pat Robertson, ignorant and fanatical anti-D&D crusader hated my hobby. My thinking was that if an idiot of such epic scale hated my hobby then it must be worth doing! Eventually the hysteria faded and gamers got on with the business of gaming.

Then I spot this video today and I nearly spit up my drink laughing.  The world evolves and ol’ Pat just keeps on spewing ignorance and hate.

Pat Robertson is barely worthy of a post, but it is an interesting relic of the 1980s and hopefully offers some insight for younger gamers. These are the clowns your elders had to deal with before gaming (digital and tabletop) went mainstream.  At one point there were all kinds of “Pats” running around doing their best to eradicate gaming. More than a few RPG books got trashed by spooked parents because of this nonsense.

Teachable moment aside, I want to take this opportunity to share my final, angry thought on Pat Robertson.

Pat, your crusade  against RPGs is, like you, a relic from another era. Thousands become gamers every day and join the millions already slinging that “magic” you fear so much. So go ahead and spew your hate for as long as you can you pathetic old man.  Time and history are on our side.  Tomorrow belongs to gamers!
